“What can we do to help?” was the question several TruMark Financial® Credit Union employees asked when they returned from a recent networking event sponsored by the Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.
The keynote speaker, Laurette McNear, recruiter for the Southeast Regional Office of CONCERN, a non- profit organization specializing in foster care, adoption, and behavioral health services, spoke about the lack of foster care homes available for the large number of children waiting to be placed in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
“McNear’s presentation was powerful and touched my heart,” said, Assistant Vice President, Mortgage Origination, Shericka Ball-Friday. “The number of children at risk and in need of housing is daunting,” said Ball-Friday. She and her co-workers spoke to the credit union’s human resources department and decided the best way they could help was by making a donation.
The credit union earmarked the funds raised from the next Casual Friday in which employees wear jeans in exchange for a donation, for CONCERN, and raised $1,000. Employees felt this truly demonstrated the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.”
